Motta Named MASCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For second straight week and fourth time this season, Bridgewater State College junior forward Nicholas Motta has been selected as the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Basketball Player of the Week.

A native of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, Motta averaged 26 points, nine rebounds and two steals while shooting 59% (20-34) from the field and 82% (9-11) at the free throw line in a 2-0 week for the Bears.

Motta poured in 28 points and grabbed nine rebounds in Bridgewater's 86-83 win on the road versus MCLA. He then tallied 24 points, nine boards and three steals in BSC's 75-69 victory over Westfield State.  Eight of Motta's 18 rebounds on the week came off the offensive glass.

Through 18 games this season, Motta is averaging 19.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 1.9 assists per game.  He currently leads the MASCAC in steals and is second in the conference in scoring, fourth in field goal percentage (.508) and free throw shooting (.772), sixth in rebounding and ninth in three-point shooting (.347).  Motta has scored at least 20 points in each of the last five games.

The Bridgewater State men's basketball team is 13-5 overall on the season and unbeaten in MASCAC play with a perfect 7-0 mark.  The Bears have won ten straight games which is one shy of the school record of 11 set during the 1982-83 season and equaled in 2008-2009.  Bridgewater will travel to Framingham State College on Tuesday night for a key MASCAC game with the Rams (7:30 PM).

In 67 games over three seasons, Motta has scored 806 points for an average of 12.0 points per game.  He is also averaging 5.1 rebounds and 2.0 steals for his career.

Motta also earned MASCAC Player of the Week honors back on November 30th and again on January 4th and January 25th.
